After two tours in Afghanistan, Joshua Ploetz is now fighting a different enemy… Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

To help cope, Ploetz is canoeing the length of the Mississippi river. After 29 days and more than 700 miles he has made it to La Crosse. The Navy League of United States was at Riverside park Monday to greet him with helping hand. The non-profit is collecting donations online to help fund P.T.S.D programs and research.

The kind of support is something that Ploetz has been noticing more and more on his 2,400 mile journey.

“We pray for you to continue protection, strength, and endurance, we also pray for gentle patriotic people to rally around you as you travel. Fare winds, and calm seas, God speed my friend, “said Tom Sweeny, Director of Outreach for the league.

Ploetz will end his journey in the Golf Mexico, which he expects to finish sometime in August.
