Verona police chase suspected car thieves, urge locking up valuables
VERONA, Wis. — The Verona Police Department is urging residents to remove valuables from their vehicles after officers chased a group of minors suspected of trying to break into cars.
Police said they went to the 900 block of Jenna Drive at 4:48 a.m. Monday after receiving report of a group of kids attempting to break into vehicles.
When the officers arrived, three SUVs reportedly belonging to the group were spotted on Westridge Drive and Edward Street. The group inside the three cars took off.
Police briefly chased the group and saw them drive recklessly across two lawns in a residential area. Officers stopped the chase due to the reckless driving.
One of the vehicles police chased was a 2019 Honda Pilot that was stolen from a garage in the 400 block of Wynnwood Drive just before the chase. Police also suspect the group was responsible for stealing items from an unlocked vehicle parked on the 300 block of Mesa Road.
The department urges residents to not leave valuables inside vehicles and to make sure all vehicles and homes are locked.
