Verona man in head-on crash charged with 5th OWI
A Verona man was arrested for his fifth drunken driving offense following a head-on crash on Highway 51 early Tuesday.
Madison police said 26-year-old Benjamin C. Goehring was driving south on Highway 51 in the northbound lanes when he hit a car driven by a 56-year-old Madison woman. The crash took place between Lexington Road and Highway 30 at 4:42 a.m.
The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Goehring initially fled the scene on foot. He returned as officers were investigating and was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and blowing a 0.23 in an alcohol breath test.
Goehring was arrested on suspicion of several offenses including fifth-offense operating while intoxicated.
