Verona Area schools to require masks to start 2021-2022 school year
VERONA, Wis. — All students and staff in the Verona Area School District will be required to wear masks indoors and on buses to start the upcoming school year, according to an e-mail sent to parents Wednesday morning.
Masks will also be recommended outdoors in crowded settings.
District officials told parents the requirement is being put in place to ensure all students can return to and stay in school for in-person instruction five days a week, while also following the latest CDC guidance.
In addition to the mask requirement, the district’s COVID-19 plan includes encouraging families get kids who are 12 and older vaccinated, COVID testing offered by school nurses, reinforcing hygiene protocols like handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes, and asking anyone who is not feeling well to stay home.
Verona Area schools will also continue HVAC protocols they followed last school year to make sure air is properly ventilated, and custodians will clean high-tough areas once a day.
The district also put together an information flyer in hopes of answering parents’ questions about the COVID plan. You can see that information below.
The district is still offering a virtual learning option for the fall semester, with registration for that program open until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11th.
Verona’s back-to-school plan is similar to the guidelines previously announced by the Madison Metropolitan School District.
