Vernon J. “Farmer” Grosse
COTTAGE GROVE-Vernon J. Grosse, age 96, passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017.
He was born on July 5, 1920, in Roxbury, Wis., to the late John and Clara (Fiscus) Grosse. Vernon was united in marriage to Alice Hart of Sandusky, Wis. and raised seven children.
Vernon worked in asphalt paving road construction and was a member of Local No. 464 Union for 67 years. Vernon at a young age had a strong passion for horses that stayed with him his entire life. In 2011 he was inducted into the Wisconsin Horse Pulling Hall of Fame.
Vernon is survived by daughters, Joan (Dale) Huston, Diane Gilbert, Kathleen (Mike) Grosse and Mary (Cullen) Smolarek; sons, John (Donna) Grosse and Jeffrey Grosse; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille (Pete) Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice; son, Philip; and sisters, Sally Meadowcroft, Petty Meutz, Betty Davis, Jean Derra, Dorothy Gillespie and Shirley Ann Holford.
Private family services will be held at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Father Michael Tarigopula presiding. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place, and Agrace HospiceCare for dad’s/grandpa’s care and accommodating the family.
Daddy, you have left us with such wonderful memories that will remain in our hearts forever. We love you and will miss you so much.
