MADISON/BEAVER DAM-Velma V. Dewey passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Dycora Transitional Healthcare.

She was born in Barnum, Wis., the daughter of LaVern and Mary (McDowell) Peck.

Velma worked for Parker Pen and Fischer Body Company before her marriage to LeRoy Dewey on Dec. 25, 1935. During World War II she worked for the Madison Kipp, alongside her husband. Velma also worked as a waitress at the Dome Restaurant near the capitol square and later became a bartender for The Sports Pub in Madison. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post No. 7591.

Velma loved to ballroom dance and square dance with her husband. When she wasn’t dancing with her beloved, LeRoy, she loved to play bingo and seldom ever lost. She also enjoyed going to Las Vegas with her sisters to play the slots. Her family was her life and eventually she became the care taker when her parents and siblings became ill.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Annette (Don) Mackey; grandchildren, Jim (Jennifer) Mackey, Barb (Joe) Hendricks and Nancy (Brian) Patrick; three great-grandsons, Michael (Sarah), Bob (Rachel) and Garrett (significant other, Rachel); three great-granddaughters, Bethany, Erica and Jozie; three great-great-grandsons, Nathan, Chase and Dylan; one great-great-granddaughter; Abby; sister, Dorothy Sisto; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy; five brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Hillside Homecare and Hospice, 709 S. University Ave., Beaver Dam WI 53916.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the hospice nurses at Hillside Homecare and Hospice and the care givers at Dycora Health Care.
