Vehicle involved in pursuit crashes into 4 other vehicles, Verona police say
VERONA, Wis. — A Stoughton woman and Madison man are in the Dane County Jail Thursday morning after a police pursuit and multi-car crash in Verona.
Jennifer Copus, 32, and 48-year-old Joseph Jackson face tentative charges for trying to elude police.
Verona police say they responded to a business at about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, where Copus was allegedly trying to return a stolen item. When police arrived, Copus allegedly ran to a car Jackson was driving.
Probably not a good idea to commit crimes in Verona when we had 5 extra officers on-duty for Halloween. Very thankful no one was seriously injured as the 2 suspects showed a complete disregard for safety. pic.twitter.com/UtFkgo35qo

The two then headed east in the westbound lanes of East Verona Avenue, crashing into four other vehicles at the intersection at Maple Grove Drive. No one was seriously hurt in the crash. The off-ramp from Verona Road was closed for approximately two hours Wednesday night as a result of the incident.
When officers searched Jackson and the car he was driving, they found more than 4 grams of what they believe to be heroin.
Verona police Tweeted Thursday morning, “Probably not a good idea to commit crimes in Verona when we had five extra officers on duty for Halloween. Very thankful no one was seriously injured as the two suspects showed complete disregard for safety.”
Copus was arrested for outstanding warrants and faces additional charges of theft and violating her parole. Jackson was arrested on charges of fleeing an officer and second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
