Vehicle catches fire, rolls into steakhouse, officials say
MADISON, Wis. — Crews responded Tuesday afternoon to reports of a vehicle that was on fire and rolling toward a steakhouse on Madison’s west side, according to a release.
The Dane County 911 Center received at least nine calls around 1:30 p.m. reporting a vehicle that was on fire and parked between the AT&T store and Longhorn Steakhouse on Gammon Road, officials said.
Witnesses said the unoccupied vehicle was rolling toward Longhorn Steakhouse and the fire was threatening the building, according to the release.
Firefighters could see black smoke coming from the area and found a Dodge Dart resting against the north side of the steakhouse with flames coming from the engine compartment, officials said. The fire was extending to the wood trim of one of the restaurant’s windows.
The owner of the Dodge was inside the steakhouse at the time of the fire, according to the release. He said he put the manual-transmission vehicle in first gear, but did not set the parking brake before going inside for lunch.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
