Vandals spray-paint gravestones in Janesville

More than 20 cars spray painted overnight, Madison PD says

Multiple gravestones at a Janesville cemetery were damaged by vandals sometime over the weekend, police said.

The Janesville Police Department said officers responded to Oakhill Cemetery at 1725 N. Washington Street Monday at 9 a.m. for a vandalism complaint.

Officers checked the area and found eight gravestones and several spots on the road within the cemetery that were spray painted, the report said. A garage in the 1600 block of North Oakhill had also been spray painted.

The damage included orange, black and silver paint, police said. Cemetery workers told police the damage likely occurred sometime over the weekend. The victim on North Oakhill reported the damage occurred sometime between 6:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday.
