UW’s Ahmed headed to London Olympics

Mohammed Ahmed said he’s not recognized much around the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, but in few days, he’ll be featured on television around the world.

The Wisconsin Badgers track and cross country runner will compete in the London Olympics, running the 10,000 meters for his native Canada.

Ahmed has had a successful career at UW-Madison. He’s a three-time All-American in cross country and was the individual champion at the Big Ten Cross Country meet last fall.

He also helped the Badgers to the Big Ten Men’s Outdoor Championship in May.

Ahmed said he wasn’t really expected to make the Canadian Olympic team until 2016, but with his collegiate accomplishments and qualifying for the 10,000 in the Canadian trials in Calgary last month, he’s punched his ticket to compete with the world’s best in London.
