UW men’s basketball team meets Obama
Bohannon made push on Twitter to meet president
MADISON, Wis. — President Barack Obama took time out from his visit to Madison on Thursday to spend a few minutes with the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team.
UW redshirt junior Zach Bohannon put a full court press on via Twitter to see if the commander-in-chief would play a pick-up game.
The president wasn’t able to make the game, but thanks to Bohannon’s persistence, the team got to meet Obama for a few minutes.
“You just walk in there and realize, oh, he isn’t as tall as you think he is,” said Bohannon. “So I went up to him and said, ‘Sir, the offer is still on the table. We would love to have you come up to play a game of pick-up basketball with our team.’ And he laughed and said he promised he would do it once the election is over.”
The basketball team will start official practices, without the president, later this month.
