UW Hospital Honors Military Employees

A color guard service was part of the Veterans Day event at University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospital on Friday.

Veterans and employees were honored for their service including U.S. Army Sgt. Jason Diaz and Sgt. Javier Font, as well as U.S. Coast Guard PTC Matt Volden.

Dr. David Goodspeed, orthopedic surgeon, was honored for treating injured soldiers and Iraqi civilians in Abu Ghraib. During the event, he spoke about the sacrifices of his colleagues while he was overseas.

“When I left that meant the guys here had to bump up their work so in a way they were working harder to be able to send me,” he said. “So, I think that service by the people who are here, not necessarily in the military service but they are working harder to be able to allow people like us to be able to go serve our soldiers.”
