MADISON, Wis. — UW Health received its first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Monday morning. Officials plan to start inoculating health care workers as soon as possible.

“It’s a very exciting time, our goal is to start vaccinating people immediately,” UW Health Pharmacy Manager Dr. Aaron Webb said. “Hope to get our first couple injections later this afternoon.”

After the shipment arrived at the hospital, it was transported to ultra-cold storage freezers where doses will be stored until they are ready for distribution or use.

UW Health has more than 1,700 doctors and 21,000 staff at seven hospitals and more than 80 outpatient sites, so it will take some time to get everyone who wants a vaccine vaccinated.
