UW Health opens indoor COVID-19 testing site on Madison’s east side
MADISON, Wis. — UW Health is opening a new indoor drive-thru testing facility Wednesday on Madison’s east side.
The new site is located at 3819 John Wall Drive and replaces the outside site on Madison’s west side. Symptomatic patients, pre-surgical patients and UW Health employees will be tested at the new site.
The east side location allows health care workers to collect testing samples in a climate-controlled space, which will help as winter approaches.
Cars will put into a large entrance before splitting off into two lanes at the new site. Ten cars will be able to fit inside the facility at one time.
The new site will focus on COVID-19 tests, but could eventually add other medical services like flu vaccinations and COVID-19 vaccinations.
“We want to use our new testing center to optimize the patient experience and the care we deliver here at UW Health,” said Teresa Neely, UW Health Senior Vice-President and Chief Ambulatory Officer.
“We hope this will be a convenient option for patients not just during the pandemic, but in the years to come.”
The east side site will be open seven days a week between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. UW Health will have the ability to test 500 patients per day.
UW Health opened its outdoor testing site on March 20, Since then, more than 60,000 COVID-19 tests were completed at that location.
COVID-19 testing is still by appointment only. Patients should call their primary care provider to determine the next steps and if testing is required.
