Uniforms coming to Milwaukee schools

The Milwaukee School Board has decided to require student uniforms for all schools in the district, beginning this fall, according to a report from JSOnline.

The board voted, 8-1, Thursday night to approve the policy.

Individual schools and individuals students will be allowed to opt-out of the requirement, but it is likely there will be far more students attending public schools wearing polo shirts and khakis, according to the report.

MPS Superintendent Darienne Driver said uniforms improve the learning environment in schools and increase safety, improve discipline and enhance school unity.
