Undefeated Black Hawk headed to state
Warriors are 27-0 this season
SOUTH WAYNE, WI — The Black Hawk Warriors girls basketball team is headed to the WIAA State Tournament at the Resch Center this week with a 27-0 record.
The Warriors are ranked number one in the state in Division Five and will play Newman Catholic in the semifinals Friday morning at 9:05.
Black Hawk relies on its stingy, pressing defense that’s held opponents to an average of less than 28 points per game this season.
Its roster features only 13 players with eight of them either sophomores or freshman.
Senior guard Hannah Herbst said “Our team is still really young this year but the girls that were on varsity last year have come back this year have a whole entire year under their belts– they have experience- but I feel like this year, we’re kind of more cohesive because we all know each other a lot better and that’s really contributed to our success.”
Head coach Mike Flanagan is in his 12th season at Black Hawk and says “we’ve never have a bad practice so it’s not what you do on game night as much as what you do on the days leading up to the game and these kids have accepted that. I think that’s a big factor in the consistency that we’ve had this season.”
