Parent, child injured after shots fired at car on Madison’s east side

MADISON, Wis. — A parent and child were injured following a Wednesday morning shooting on Madison’s far east side, police said.

Several people called 911 around 7 a.m. after hearing multiple gunshots in the area of North Lawn Avenue and Dahle Street, according to a release by the Madison Police Department.

Initial information was that two vehicles were involved when someone in one of the cars began firing shots at another vehicle, police said.

Detectives believe the shooter exited the passenger seat of the getaway car and shot several times into the victims’ car, which was stopped at the intersection.

The parent and two children were inside the victims’ car, the release said. Both are expected to be OK, according to police.

Police believe the shooting was targeted.

MPD’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating.
