Two boys arrested in weekend crime spree
Boys suspected of thousands of dollars of damage and retail theft
MADISON, Wis. — Police said a crime spree resulting in thousands of dollars of damage ended with the arrest of two 12-year-old boys Saturday night.
Madison police took the boys into custody outside of the Shopko on 7401 Mineral Point Rd. Police said the 12-year-olds fled the store after stealing almost $380 worth of jewelry and socks.
The boys were suspected of also breaking into two vacant homes in the 6700 block of Park Ridge Drive. They admitted to kicking in doors and damaging window screens on Aug. 8 and 9.
“They thought it would be fun to kick in doors like they have seen on television shows and in the movies,” said Madison Police. That boy also confessed to flooding the kitchen in one clogged sink, which the property owner estimates will cause $5,000 in water damage to the kitchen, living room, and basement.
The suspects admitted to being present at a recent car break-in on Park Ridge Drive. Electronics were stolen from the car.
