Twenty-two additional Dane Co. Jail inmates test positive for COVID-19

MADISON, Wis. — An additional 22 inmates in the Dane County Public Safety Building have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the jail’s total number of confirmed cases to 38.

On Wednesday, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 16 inmates housed in receiving at the jail had active coronavirus infections.

A short time later, multiple inmates in another housing unit began showing mild symptoms. The entire housing unit was subsequently tested. Twenty-two of those tests came back positive.

Jail officials said all inmates who have tested positive are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.

Inmates who have tested positive will be isolated and monitored by jail staff, according to a news release. If symptoms worsen, inmates will be transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
