Train hits 16-year-old boy in Kenosha County
Teen was wearing headphones
PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — A train hit a 16-year-old boy Friday in Kenosha County.
The teen was wearing headphones while walking on the tracks just south of State Highway 50 in Pleasant Prairie.
It happened at about 7:10 a.m. Friday as the boy was walking on Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks. In a news release, police said the train’s emergency brakes were activated and a horn was sounded repeatedly but it appeared the teen was unable to hear the warning signals.
Police Sgt. Scott Durkee said the boy had been listening to headphones.
The teen had been conscious and alert when rescue personnel arrived and he was initially taken to a local hospital. He was later taken by helicopter to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee.
Durkee did not have a condition update Saturday. The teen’s name has not been released.
