Trail rides for miles in Madison

There are more than 200 miles of dedicated biking and hiking trails in and around Madison if you count the Military Ridge, Capital City, Badger and Glacial Drumlin State Trails. In town, there’s the Starkweather Creek Path, the Southwest Commuter Path, the Wingra Creek Path and the recently opened Cannonball Path in addition to shorter segments in many neighborhoods.
The paths in the city are paved while the state trails are mostly crushed limestone, except for the sections closest to the city. All make for easy, flat riding.
No need to detail each trail here. But if you haven’t explored the Starkweather Creek Path, check it out. From Reindahl Park on the far-east side, it runs past the Madison College campus and crosses Highway 30 and East Washington Avenue before connecting with the Capital City Trail. Kids will love the bridges and overpasses.
