Tow truck driver thwarts would-be robber, officials say

A tow truck driver was robbed while loading a car onto his truck Wednesday night on Madison’s east side, according to a release.

The tow truck driver told police the robber put an unknown object into his back and demanded his wallet around 7:35 p.m. at Firestone Auto Care at 4201 Lien Road.

The driver was able to hit the robber, causing him to stumble backward, according to the release. The robber then fled toward East Towne Mall without the man’s wallet.

Police said the robber is still at large. He is described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 160 pounds.
