Top high school football teams start battling in playoffs Friday
Waunakee faces old rival in first playoff game
WAUNAKEE, Wis. — The playoffs for 224 high school football teams start Friday in Wisconsin, and Waunakee will have to start their journey by battling an old friend in the first round.
The Warriors, ranked second in the latest AP large division football poll, start the playoffs facing long-time rival DeForest in Waunakee.
Eight ranked Verona also has an interesting challenge Friday. The Wildcats face traditional football powerhouse Hartland Arrowhead in the first round in Verona. Arrowhead stumbled to a 5-4 record this year, but eighth-ranked Verona knows this team has a history of succeeding in the playoffs.
Sun Prairie, ranked sixth in the AP poll, hosts Madison Lafollette in a Big Ten rematch from last week. 7-2 Middleton has to go on the road to play at Oconowomoc.
Mt. Horeb/Barneveld, which is ranked 9 th in the Medium Division AP poll, will host Delevan-Darien in a first round battle in Mt. Horeb Friday. And Darlington, which is ranked 2 nd in the small division poll, will host Brookwood at home.
