Tip helps deputies find runaway girl; 19-year-old boyfriend arrested
A tip helped deputies find a runaway girl in another state, hundreds of miles away, officials said.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said a 16-year-old Sauk County girl was reported as a runaway July 21. The girl had run away with her 19-year-old boyfriend Cody L. Fry. A child abuse injunction prohibited Fry from having contact with the girl, deputies said.
The sheriff’s office said tips and social media tools helped investigators track the girl and Fry to a hotel in Seattle Monday afternoon, six days after the girl was reported as a runaway.
Seattle police officers found the missing girl and Fry at the motel and Fry was arrested, according to a news release.
The Sauk Sheriff’s Office said the girl was turned over to child protective services in Seattle for further proceedings.
Fry was taken into custody on charges in Wisconsin including felony interference with child custody. If convicted, Fry faces a maximum sentence of $10,000 and three-and-a-half years in prison. Fry will also face charges upon his return to Wisconsin for violating the terms of the injunction that had prohibited contact with the girl.
Fry will undergo extradition proceedings in Washington, after which he is expected to be returned to Wisconsin for a bail hearing in Sauk County Circuit Court, according to a news release.
