Three men arrested in downtown assault
Police said a disturbance began in local restaurant
MADISON, Wis. — Three battery suspects are in custody Wednesday morning after a concerned citizen memorized the license plate number of the getaway car.
Madison Police said one suspect, 30-year-old Kenneth Sanders, created a disturbance inside Erbert and Gerbert’s Subs and Clubs restaurant at 540 University Ave. early Wednesday. Sanders was in the restaurant to use the restroom and was not dining there. He began yelling at patrons and threatening them with bodily harm, police said.
A restaurant employee, 29, asked Sanders to leave and escorted him outside. The employee was then attacked by Sanders and at least two other men, police said. He was punched multiple times and his hand was cut by a bottle, they said.
Police identified the suspects as Anthony Pruett, 25, and Royrel Gatson, 27.
The attackers fled to a vehicle parked in a West Gilman Street lot. After being provided with the license plate number by a witness, Madison police officers were able to quickly find the car and arrest the suspects.
