MIDDLETON, Wis. — Three people are dead and one person was hospitalized following a crash in Middleton Saturday night.

Police say the crash happened around 10:15 p.m., near West Mineral Point Road and Karls Court.

An investigation shows that a vehicle traveling east on West Mineral Point Road rear-ended another vehicle, sending it into a nearby farm field.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says that the vehicle in the field was on fire when crews arrived. All three occupants of that vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, which ended up in a ditch, was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Mineral Point Road was closed for about seven hours following the crash.

The names of those involved have not been released.
