Three more Dane County Starbucks locations file for union representation
FITCHBURG, Wis. — Workers at three local Starbucks stores filed for union representation Monday, joining a growing trend across the country.
The workers at 2981 Tiverton Pike Drive in Fitchburg, 6512 Monona Drive in Monona, and 3515 University Ave. in Madison filed with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1473.
The stores are the 5th, 6th, and 7th Starbucks locations to file for union representation in Wisconsin, joining a nationwide effort. Workers at the Starbucks on East Main Street in Madison filed for union representation last month.
Fitchburg Starbucks shift supervisor Maki Davidson says they are filing for union representation because they “love Starbucks” and want to “make things better at Starbucks.”
“We work hard to make the company successful,” shift supervisor Maki Davidson said. “We believe in the power of a union to make our voices heard as the workers who make this company run.”
Workers cited issues regarding scheduling, time off and pay as reasons for organizing. Their petition was also filed with the National Labor Relations Board on Monday.
Unionization efforts have been successful at Starbucks locations in New York, Arizona and Washington state.
