Thousands of pounds of corn spilled on Highway 11
Ramp to be closed on Friday
TOWN OF MONROE, Wis. — Several thousand pounds of corn were spilled on Highway 11 in Green County when the frame of a trailer hauling the corn failed, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to Highway 11 less than a mile east of State Highway 81 in the town of Monroe at 10:10 p.m. Thursday for a report of a crash. Investigators said the tractor-trailer driven by Kevin D. Gille, 50, of South Wayne, was traveling west on Highway 11 when the frame of the trailer failed, the side buckled and the corn inside was spilled.
Deputies said they suspect the trailer was overloaded.
Gille Farms of South Wayne was cited for improper display of plates and failure to maintain brakes.
Gille was not injured.
The westbound lanes of Highway 11 were restricted to one lane until it reopened at 3 a.m.
The westbound Highway 11 off-ramp to Highway 81 is expected to be closed from 10 am. until noon on Friday while the rest of the corn is removed from the trailer and the trailer is moved.
