Thomas Lewis Wirth
Thomas Lewis Wirth, Sr., age 86, of Monona, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Oakwood Village. He was born on July 25, 1926, in Milwaukee, the son of Lewis and Lydia Wirth. Tom graduated from Messmer High School and served in the armed forces from November, 1945 until October, 1952. Tom married Mary Hasara on July 30, 1949, in Milwaukee. He earned a masters degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin and worked for the Department of Natural Resources at Nevin Fish Hatchery as a fisheries biologist for over 30 years. He loved all outdoor activities especially hunting and fishing. Tom was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Tom is survived by his children; Antoinette (Joe) Wirth-LaVarda of Milwaukee, Thomas (Arlene) Wirth, Jr. of Merrimac, Joan Wirth of Madison, and Charles (Sandra) Wirth of Monona; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Gianna LaVarda, John and Andrew Overshiner, Andrew and Tammy Cockroft and Clint (Sara) Cockcroft; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Garrett, Lauren Hanrahan, Michael Hanrahan, Santina Semeraro and Cecilia Semeraro; step-great-grandchildren, Josh, Brittany, Jordan, and River. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, brother, James; sister, Patricia Winkleman; and step-granddaughter, Elaine Graber.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Tom will be celebrated at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012. Thomas was loved and will be missed by many.
