Thomas L. Virnig
Thomas L. Virnig, age 79, died on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. He was born in Madison on March 31, 1933, the son of the late Adrian and Marie (Kaltenberg) Virnig. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Neva Kite on June 27, 1959 in Prairie du Sac.
Tom was employed by Icke Construction as a heavy equipment operator, and later retired from the maintenance department at the VA Hospital. He was a lifetime member of Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post 7694, where he served on the honor guard, and also a member of Kuoni-Reuter American Legion Post 167.
He is survived by his wife, Neva of Prairie du Sac; two step-children, Merlyn (Mary) Grenie of Stoughton and Linda Ganser of Prairie du Sac; three siblings, Vic Virnig, Mary Lou (Don) Taylor and Charles (Mary Jo) Virnig, all of Madison; a step daughter-in-law, Karen Grenie of Hales Corners; 19 grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and frriends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard; a sister, Viola DeVoe; and three step-children, Donna Meyer, Patrick Grenie and Wanda Fuller.
A funeral service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERALHOME, Sauk City, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery. Friends may call at Hooverson Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012 and also after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
