Thomas “da Bear” Koch
MADISON-Thomas “da Bear” Koch, age 71, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born on Oct. 23, 1940, in the south side of Chicago, the son of Harold and Marie (Highland) Koch.
Tom served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 until 1966. He married Linda Mae Gerke on July 27, 1963, in Madison. He worked for Madison Metro for more than 30 years. Tom enjoyed sports, and was an avid White Sox and Bears fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Tom will be known for his quick wit, and his larger than life personality.
He is survived by his three children, Tamra (Stephen) Donohue of Green Bay, Tommy (Julie) Koch of Sun Prairie, and Teri (Joel) Lotspeich of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Stephanie, Brianna, and James Donohue and Bruno and Gunnar Koch; and brother, Robert Koch of West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda; his parents; and his brother, Jim.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2012, with military rites being conducted. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3:30 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many people who helped keep an eye on Dad.
