Thief takes valuables from occupied apartment
Man chased suspected burglar
MADISON, Wis. — A thief snagged a backpack containing a laptop and other valuables from an occupied home near the UW campus, according to a release from Madison police.
Police said the man entered the apartment Tuesday night on North Breese Terrace through an unlocked door. One of the women living there had been in a bedroom; the other in the shower when the red backpack was taken.
As the women called police, another resident on North Breese Terrace chased a home burglar down the street. Police said he stopped his pursuit when the thief reached for his waistband, intimating he might be armed.
The 22-year-old man said the burglar was wearing a red backpack.
The burglar is described as black, in his late teens to early 20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build, round face and no facial hair. He was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt with the hood tight around face.
