The Face of Orthopedics: Stoughton Hospital
The Faces of Madison 2020
Meet Stoughton Hospital’s Dr. Ashish Rawal, a fellowship-trained, double-board-certified sports medicine orthopedic surgeon with nearly 15 years of surgical experience. From a young age, Dr. Rawal knew medicine was in his future as he watched the impact his physician grandfather had on his community. He was drawn to orthopedic surgery because of its rapid improvement in patients’ quality of life.
“As an orthopedic surgeon, I can do a procedure on a patient and see its immediate effect,” said Rawal. “For me, the amazing part is that I can really make a difference quickly in someone’s life and restore their function, whether it’s being able to walk or lift their arm. That’s the best thing in the world.”
Dr. Rawal has treated athletes from high school to the NFL and has taught surgeons around the world the latest techniques in ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, shoulder replacement and instability surgery. He is the only orthopedic surgeon in Dane County using customized knee replacements to treat knee arthritis.
