The Central High School boys’ basketball team gives back to player from other team
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Central High School’s boys’ basketball team is on its way to state for the second year in a row.
On Thursday morning, the school held a pep rally to send the team off in style.
During the rally the team showed its support for a player from another team.
Barneveld Golden Eagles sophomore Malcolm Reed’s mother collapsed after suffering a brain aneurysm on Saturday right before the team’s sectional game. She died at the hospital after the game.
Central students held a miracle minute where the school raised over $1,700 for Reed’s family.
Central’s coach, Todd Ferget, said the team wanted to show Reed support through this difficult time.
“We wanted to help out in some small way and let him know that we’re with him during this difficult time and just trying to reach out to him, letting him know we’re there for support,” Ferget said.
Twelve hundred tickets for Friday’s game against Waunakee were given to Central but quickly sold out.
