Whether your goal is to increase strength and fitness, learn self-defense skills or trian for competition, there is a martial arts form for you. But how do you choose the right style for you and your family? Some studios, like Twisted Fitness, offer a variety of forms, including Brazilian jiujitsu, mixed martial arts and Muay Thai boxing. Other places specialize in one discipline, like karate–check out Infinity Martial Arts and Black Belt America for that.

Brazilian Jiujitsu

This discipline is a martial art founded in Brazil in the early 1900s. It is born out of the Japanese judo tradition and focuses heavily on wrestling or grappling techniques as well as self-defense.


A traditional Japanese fighting form using punching, kicking, knee strikes and open hand strikes to defend against an opponent.

Mixed Martial Arts

MMA is a combination of striking and grappling or ground fighting, using a mix of techniques from various martial arts traditions.


Muay Thai Boxing

The national sport of Thailand focuses on punching, kicking, kneeing and elbowing and is an incredible workout.
