Terminally ill 7-year-old gets visit from over 35 K-9 units
Terminally ill 7-year-old Emma Mertens may have asked for letters from area dogs, but what she got instead was a memorable, off-duty visit from police K-9s, and lots of them!
The Hartland girl received countless letters after her request went viral, but she received a unique surprise Saturday when 35 police departments brought their K-9s to help spread the cheer. She posed with her newfound furry friends in a Facebook post.
Mertens is fighting a very rare and inoperable brain tumor called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, according to her GoFundMe page. While the family is looking for financial support, the efforts are also aimed at helping comfort Mertens through the challenging times.
Team Emma’s GoFundMe has raised over $124,000 so far.
