Teen seriously injured in crash on Hwy. 51

A Stoughton teen was seriously injured in a crash Tuesday morning after he failed to yield to oncoming traffic on Highway 51, police said.

Just before 8 a.m., Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, McFarland police and Stoughton Fire and EMS responded to a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Dunn.

Charles Stabler was traveling southbound on Highway 51 in his 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. Stabler failed to yield to northbound traffic while turning left onto Halvorson Road and struck an oncoming GMC Sierra pick-up truck.

Stabler, 19, of Stoughton, was ejected from his vehicle and  transported by Med Flight to UW Hospital with serious injuries. Deputies believe he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The pickup driver, Lori Lampe, 48, of Stoughton, suffered minor injuries. She was transported to a local hospital by Stoughton EMS.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
