TDS Open raises record amount for Gio’s Garden

Gio's Garden Grows Thanks To $100,000 Donation

FITCHBURG, Wis. — Playing some golf made life a little easier for some local families on Friday.

TDS associates and vendors spent the day at University Ridge for its annual TDS Open. The outing has been held for more than 30 years but transitioned to a charity-supporting event in 2011.

This year, TDS chose Gio’s Garden as its beneficiary — and raised a record amount.

“Our biggest year to date was $68,000 and our goal was to try and beat $68,000 this year,” TDS Vice President of Operations Mark Barber said Friday before presenting a check for $127,000.

Gio himself crashed the event, getting a red Gatorade and a golf cart ride.

Because of the donation, Gio’s Garden will be able to serve even more children than the 85 it is currently providing respite for this year.
