Taste of Madison to return to new location after a year hiatus
Taste of Madison Off the Square will be Sept. 4 and Sept. 5.
After canceling Taste of Madison in 2020, Madison Festivals Inc. is bring back Taste of Madison, but moving it to Breese Stevens Field on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5.
This year’s Taste of Madison will be called Taste of Madison Off the Square as the event typically takes place on Capitol Square, a release says.
“After a year marked with challenges, cancellations, and uncertainty, we are thrilled to bring this incredible event back to our community,” Madison Festivals President Sara Klemme says. “It’s important that Taste of Madison reflects the quality standards expected by the community, and we are happy to work with the team at Breese Stevens Field to deliver an exemplary event.”
To help boost local restaurants, Madison Festivals is offering free booth space to the restaurant vendors. Taste of Madison is a fundraiser and since its start in 1983, it has raised more than $1 million — in 2019, it raised $64,000 for local nonprofits.
“The event is committed to supporting our restaurant community, and truly the basis of Taste of Madison, so free booth space was one small way we could help,” Klemme says.
Attendees will be required to purchase a $10 ticket for entry — tickets go on sale June 15 at 10 a.m. There are also tickets set aside that will be given to first responders, health care workers and nonprofits. Ticket proceeds will be donated to local charities.
In addition to the main event in September, Madison Festivals is hosting “Savor the Summer,” a campaign spotlighting two different local restaurants each week. Savor the Summer kicked off on Monday.
In addition to supporting local restaurants, participants in the campaign will be entered to win three Taste of Madison prize packs. There will be 20 restaurants featured in Savor the Summer, but the first two for the week of June 6-12 are Bandung Indonesian Cuisine and Hong Kong Cafe.
