Suspicious object shut down downtown intersection
Traffic was closed on West Washington Avenue
MADISON, Wis. — Madison police investigated a suspicious object found near the intersection of West Washington Avenue and Fairchild Street Friday afternoon that turned out to be a cotter pin from a truck.
Police said they received a call at 12:57 p.m. about a suspicious cylinder-shaped object against the curb.
City of Madison cameras showed officers blocking access to West Washington Avenue and a bomb squad robot investigating the object and removing it from the scene.
Police said the shape of the object made it look suspicious but the object was heavier than what a pipe bomb would be so they knew it wasn’t dangerous.
The roads were reopened to traffic just before 2:30 p.m.
