Suspicious man reported around near west side schools, officials say
MADISON, Wis. — Officials at several schools on Madison’s near west side are warning the community of a suspicious man who has been reported in the area.
Edgewood principal Robert Growney sent an email to parents Wednesday saying he was made aware of communication sent to parents and guardians of the Randall School and Blessed Sacrament communities.
According to the communication, several parents reported on a neighborhood Listserv that an 8-year-old was walking from Randall School through the neighborhood this week when a man started to follow her.
The man started following her after she left the crossing guard at Allen Street, Commonwealth Avenue and Edgewood Avenue, officials said. The man followed her across the bridge until she turned on Keyes Avenue and met up with an adult at the bus stop.
According to the email, the man blew smoke in the girl’s face.
Based on the description, the man has also been seen near Blessed Sacrament School, according to the release.
The man is described as white, very pale, about 6 feet tall, very thin and lanky with brownish spiky hair, wide-set eyes and a goatee. He wears a long black coat, does not like to make eye contact and smokes.
