Suspected robber found walking half-mile from Madison bank, police say
MADISON, Wis. — A suspected robber was found Tuesday morning about a half mile south of the bank that was victimized on Madison’s north side Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Madison police said officers responded to a report of a robbery at about 9:30 a.m. at the Old National Bank on North Sherman Avenue, and the suspect was in custody within about 10 minutes.
Police said officers from the department that’s just a couple of blocks away swarmed the area. The suspect, 32-year-old John E. Bauer, of Madison, was found walking near Winchester Street and Ruskin Street. Bauer was taken into custody without incident.
According to the report, the robber passed a note demanding cash at the bank. No weapon was seen during the robbery.
Bauer is facing a tentative charge of theft from a financial institution.
