Suspected drug deal leads to chase, deputies say
An investigation of a suspected drug transaction led to a police pursuit early Tuesday morning, according to a release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy saw a man in a private parking lot get out of a vehicle and get into a yellow 2003 Saturn Vue while holding what appeared to be a substantial quantity of drugs, according to the release.
The deputy said the Saturn went south out of Janesville on Afton Road. A patrol deputy attempted to stop the Saturn, but the driver accelerated, reaching speeds of 80 mph, according to the release.
Deputies said they used stop sticks to deflate all four tires, and the car came to rest in the east ditch of Afton Road near Beloit Rock Townline Road.
Cortez M. Tucker, 25, of Rockford, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, manufacture/delivery of cocaine, fleeing an officer, operating after suspension, failure to maintain control of a vehicle, operating without a seat belt, operating without insurance, and on a probation violation. He was not injured.
The pursuit lasted about one mile.
Deputies said Tucker’s arrest resulted in the seizure of 62.5 grams of powder cocaine, 4.5 grams of crack cocaine and $ 3,950.
