Susan Summerton, age 57 of rural Oxford, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Thursday, April 20, 2017 at her residence with her loving family by her side.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oxford Bible Church in Oxford with Pastor Donald Wedel officiating. Burial will be at Oxford Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Oxford Bible Church on Monday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
Susan was born April 23, 1959 in Portage, Wisconsin the daughter of Glen and Margaret “Peggy” (Lascelles) Whitson. She graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School in 1977 and the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1981. She worked in customer service and later was employed as an Educational Assistant in the Montello Schools. In April of 1998 she married James Summerton in Oxford. Sue loved children and enjoyed teaching students about history. She also was very involved at church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Awana Youth Club.
Sue liked auctions, flea markets, flowers, and was a Pampered Chef consultant. Along with her husband she shared an interest with the farming duties. She had grown up on a Dairy farm and was involved in 4-H and Future Homemakers of America.
Sue is survived by her husband, James; her father, Glen (Terri) Whitson of Wisconsin Dells; brothers, James (Marti) Whitson of Fall River, Wisconsin and Thomas Whitson of Adams, Wisconsin; sisters, Lori Whitson of Adams and Kim (Scott) Babcock of Wisconsin Dells; sisters in law, Joan Couture of Palmyra, Wisconsin, Susan (Don) Gamble of Chicago, Illinois and Teresa (Gary) Stoltenberg of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Nichole and Kelly Whitson, Amelia, Annette, Andrea and Zach Foster, Beth and Ben Babcock, Zeb, Margaret and Dakota Whitson, Monique (Eric) Skarphol and Malcolm (Nidia) Couture, Malcolm Gamble and Teresa Gamble; and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and infant brother, Phillip.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Carbone Cancer Center or Oxford Bible Church would be appreciated.
