Surveillance video, witnesses claim man exposed himself near funeral-goers

A 20-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly exposed himself on more than one occasion in Madison’s downtown area, police said.

Madison police said security staff members at the Overture Center for the Arts told officers a man had committed lewd acts inside the facility Monday afternoon, and that patrons, including some attending a funeral memorial service, had seen him commit the crime.

On Tuesday morning, citizens called police after a man, matching the same description of the man acting lewdly at Overture, exposed himself outside in the 400 block of North Frances Street, according to the report.

Police said investigators used downtown surveillance camera images to identify a suspect and shared the images with officers patrolling the downtown. An officer spotted the suspect, who was reportedly wearing the same clothing captured in surveillance images, shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Police arrested Ishmael D. Riley near the top of State Street Tuesday night on suspicion of lewd and lascivious behavior, felony bail jumping and on a probation hold.

According to the report, Riley denied being in the places where the exposures were reported.

Riley is homeless, according to the report.
