Sun Prairie restaurant, bakery permanently closes
The end of the month marks the end of two beloved institutions in Sun Prairie.

Market Street Diner and Carl’s Cakes are closing permanently in Sun Prairie.
While Market Street Diner has already closed, but Carl’s Cakes/Market Street Bakery is still accepting orders until June 30.
Since 2005, the Market Street Diner and Bakery has brought comfort food and diner classics to the Sun Prairie community. Though the diner closed to the public in March 2020, it continued to provide carryout and delivery to its customers. Within the bakery is Carl’s Cakes, whose team has more than 30 years of baking experience.
With the pending sale of its building, Carl’s Cakes alone could not keep the operation viable without the diner, leaving the team to decide it was best to ultimately close.
“Right now our focus is satisfying all the remaining orders we have through Carl’s Cakes until we close, we have had a great deal of business and support since we announced [the closure],” says Tom Ray, managing partner at the Food Fight. “We had a great run and truly cherished serving the Sun Prairie Community breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert for nearly 20 years.”
