Sun Prairie, Parker win at WIAA Baseball
Big Eight foes face each other for third time in semifinals
GRAND CHUTE — Sun Prairie defeated Stevens Point 5-3 and Janesville Parker rallied to beat Bay Port in the Division 1 quarterfinals of the WIAA State Baseball tournament at Fox Cities Stadium Tuesday.
Sun Prairie is going for its third straight Division 1 championship and defeated Stevens Point for the title last June.
The Cardinals were trailing the Panthers 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Sun Prairie came up with three runs.
Coby Oswalt’s two-run single broke a 3-3 tie to give the Cardinals the deciding runs.
Janesville Parker also came from behind against Bay Port in its quarterfinals.
The Vikings were down 2-1 in the top of the sixth when they erupted for three runs..
Collin Powers had and RBI single and pinch hitter Brock Welch drove in two more with a single.
Hunter Van Zandt pitched a complete game for the win. He allowed one earned run on nine hits, walked four and struck out three.
Sun Prairie and Janesville Parker will meet for the third time this season in the WIAA Division 1 semifinals scheduled to start at 6 pm Tuesday night.
The two teams have split their previous meetings this season.
Middleton the third Big 8 team at state, falls 2-1 to Wilmot Union in the quarterfinals.
