Sun Prairie looks to revamp main corridor
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The city of Sun Prairie is looking to revamp the central Main Street corridor, but it wants input from residents first.
The redevelopment plan would focus on a mile stretch of road from the Highway 151 exit to downtown.
Taylor Brown, Economic Development Specialist for the city of Sun Prairie, said the area is currently underutilized with just a few businesses and industrial buildings.
“It’s more of a thoroughfare right now and there’s not really good places–you know, people don’t stop, so we want to make it more economically viable,” Brown said.
The city is hoping to team up with residents and business owners for ideas on housing, transportation, and other new developments.
Part of the redevelopment project will be funded by a $15,000 grant from the Better Urban Infill Development program of Dane County.
City leaders hope to have a redevelopment plan finalized by October so that construction can begin in spring of 2018.
