Sun Prairie heading to WIAA baseball final
Roscoe goes 9 innings in 4-3 victory
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — Sun Prairie High School is heading to the WIAA division one baseball final after beating Stevens Point 4-3 in nine innings late Tuesday at the state baseball championships in Grand Chute.
Sun Prairie’s Coyt Mayr got the game winning RBI just before midnight to give the Cardinals a victory, and a spot in the final against Bay Port.
Ryan Roscoe pitched all nine innings for the Cardinals, giving up three runs and ten hits.
After Stevens Point and Sun Prairie each score in the first inning, the game settled down into a pitcher’s duel. Sun Prairie scored two more runs in the fifth, thanks to a two-run double by catcher Zach Fairchild. That forced out Stevens Point starter Cal Giese, who hadn’t given up a hit until that inning.
But Stevens Point got both runs back in the sixth inning against Roscoe, although one of the runs was unearned.
Sun Prairie is now 30-1 on the season going into the final.
