Sun Prairie beats Verona in girls’ softball
Cardinals to host La Crosse Central Thursday
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — Sun Prairie’s girls’ softball team is heading to the sectional finals after dominating Big Eight rival Verona 6-0 Monday.
It was the third meeting of the year between Big Eight conference rivals.
Junior pitcher Kristen Hoppman played a key role in the win for the Cardinals. She struck out Claudia Kepler to end the Wildcats third inning. Hoppman struck out nine and only allowed four hits in helping the Cardinals get the victory.
In the bottom of the third, Jenna Dammen hits a shot that finds the gap and brings in two runs, which is plenty to secure the victory.
The Cardinals now face La Crosse Central Thursday in the sectional finals, with a trip to the state championship on the line.
